2. Grilled Green Tailgate Salad
Three years ago, I hosted an amazing tailgate party for my family. Of course, I remembered last minute that my sister in law has turned vegan. This was the recipe I made for her, and it was loved by her so much that she actually comes over sometimes and requests me to create it for her. So far, this has been the best tailgate recipe for grill.
Its easy tailgate food that can sit out, you can use it as a make ahead tailgate food and the best part is that it is incredibly cheap— if you’re on a budget!
For the Salad:
1. 2 plump tomatoes
2. 1 red ball pepper
3. 1 zucchini
4. 1 red onion, finely chopped
5. 3 asparagus spears
6. 1 cup boiled grains i.e. brown rice, barley, oats, etc.
7. 4 5 leafy greens
8. Boiled/ Canned Corn
For Salad Dressing
1. 4 tbs olive oil
2. 1 tbs tahini sauce
3. 1 tbs salt
4. 1 tbs pepper
5. 1 tbs ground cumin
6. 1 tbs ground coriander
7. 1 tbs Apple cider vinegar
The recipe is pretty simple. For the dressing, take a large bowl and mix the ingredients for the dressing. Make sure you mix them properly so they are properly merged because the last thing you want to have is dressing with chunks of ingredients.
Next up, you need to cut up the vegetables nicely, and then mix them in a bowl. Preheat your grill for 10 minutes and place the vegetables on the grill. This step makes them crispier and crunchier, and frankly, delicious enough to fill up your tummy.
Glaze some olive oil on the grill. Subsequently, grill the vegetables for 5-7 minutes and take them out in a nice china plate. Last but not the least, drizzle the salad dressing and let your guests sing the songs of your praise.
3. Grilled Chicken Sandwiches
Here comes the easiest chicken tailgate recipe that I have in my list. I can not tell you how many times this recipe has saved my time and money. The last thing you want to do on a tailgate is worry about where the plates and forks for steaks are. As well as that, sandwiches are just a cheap and healthy tailgate food that kids love.
1. ½ kg boneless chicken cut in steak size
2. 1 tbs paprika power
3. 1 tbs salt
4. 1 tbs red pepper
5. 1 tbs lemon juice
6. 3 tbs bbq sauce
7. 4 tbs mustard sauce
8. 1 tbs olive oil
Start by mixing up paprika power, salt, red pepper, lemon juice and bbq sauce with the olive oil. Finely brush the chicken with the mixture created, and let it sit for 2 hours.
Additionally, you can also add hot sauce in it if you want to add more flavor. Pack the chicken in a plastic box and when the time for grilling comes, you can just grill the chicken. Make sure to toast the bread loafs over the grill for best taste. Don’t forget to put mustard sauce.
4. Grilled Mexican Steaks
If you want to add life in tailgating and make it fancy-schmancy, the Grilled Mexican Steak is the one of the best things to grill at tailgate.
Making a steak is no joke. Nonetheless, with the right type of grill, you can make this process way less tough.
For me, it is very important that the steaks don’t end up too stiff, or too raw from inside but cooked only from outside. I use Weber Jumbo Joe Charcoal Grill. Super-easy to carry for tailgate, Dampers allow you to effortlessly regulate the temperature inside your grill and porcelain-enameled lid doesn’t rust, so it’s a win-win!
The steak comes out looking beautiful and juicy, just the way I like it.
1. 3 tbs cumin seeds
2. 4 jalapeno peppers, unseeded and finely chopped
3. 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
4. 1 tbs black pepper
5. 1 tbs salt
6. 4 tbs lemon juice
7. 5 tbs olive oil
8. 3 bunches cilantro leaves
9. 2 pounds steak
Before you start grilling the steak, you need to season it. Toast the cumin seeds and garlic together in olive oil. Following, add black pepper, salt, lemon juice in the mixture.
On the other hand, crush the cilantro leaves and jalapeno peppers in a mixer. Mix all of the ingredients together and brush it on the steak slices.
While you’re doing that, you can always pre-heat your grill for 10 minutes so its ready for your tailgate steaks!
You can also add mustard sauce or bbq sauce for added flavor. My family prefers it with chili sauce, but feel free to adjust the recipes according to your own tastebuds and flavor preferences.

Tips for Tailgate recipes:
1. Always keep a portable grill that is lightweight and easy to carry around. We would advise you to go for a grill that has automatic ignition so you don’t have to worry about taking a lighter or matchsticks. Most importantly, Test your grill one day before to make sure it is working.
